This is one of only 606 made of the early pinned barrel versions of the Model 1811 pistol. There were only 2,000 Model 1811 pistols of two variations, produced between 1811 and 1813 by Simeon North. This is the earlier of the two types, the second type has a double strap barrel band. Round steel smoothbore barrel, stamped with a sunken eagle head over "CT" inspector's proof and "V" on left side, near breech. Flat lockplate stamped with large eagle over "U. STATES" in center, tail stamped "S. NORTH/BERLIN/CON." vertically, brass pan and reinforced cock, lock screws all stamped with small "x". Standard brass furniture similar to that of the Model 1808 Navy pistol, but with "S" shaped sideplate. Brass pommel cap. Full length plain walnut stock stamped with "V/HHP" inspectors stamp for Henry H. Perkin, behind sideplate. Complete with wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel and lock retain a grey patina with some darker areas and scattered light freckling. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration. Brass retains a dark unpolished patina with a few scattered marks. Stock with scattered marks and one repaired break from front of lock tang to forend, near muzzle. Some minor chipping around pins. This is a hard to find and early transitional martial pistol. DMG
