This is a Charles Erb registered DWM MG-08 Maxim manufactured in 1918 with matching numbered receiver, barrel jacket, top cover, safety bar, backplate and caps. Fusee cover is un-numbered. The feed block and bolt does not match. Wood thumb pieces present on water fill cap. Swiss tripod with trunnion collar adapter and traverse limiting blocks is included with this gun. Also included are two Russian ammo cans with a 200 round metal 7.62 x 54R Maxim belt in each. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine with dark green repainted finish over light pitting on water jacket which has a couple small dings. Top cover, fusee cover, and backplate hardware also have some small pitting over nice refinish. Sideplates have near excellent finish. Wood handles have some little dings and handling marks but still are very serviceable. Right handle slightly loose. Mechanics are crisp. Bore of Weimar eagle marked barrel with “S” is near excellent shiny and bright. Multiple renumbered lock is extremely fine. Tripod retains over 95% green paint with fine mechanics. The Maxim MG-08 is one of the most recognizable weapons of World War 1, and remained in service albeit in a rear security role with the Germans through the end of WW2. In recent years there have been very successful conversions of the MG-08 to fire 7.62 Russian ammunition. It is a great machine gun to take to the range or as a display piece. No collection of WW1 machine guns is complete without a German MG-08. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 2019-10-195
