Scarce board with 142 cartridges placed in the shape of a large “W”. The board image is printed on wood grain cardboard with art vignettes, one by A.B. Frost in the left wing of the “W” which consists of a hunter and Indian guide in Hudson Bay Co. blanket coats. The right wing of the “W” depicts a Frederic Remington-style vignette of a cowboy using an 1873 or 1876 rifle shooting while using his dead horse as a barricade. The bottom center features two hanging ducks. Top center of the board has the large red and gold “WINCHESTER”. CONDITION: Good overall with the .45 Sharps 2 - 7/8 cartridge missing, along with other cartridges that have been replaced. Unfortunately, someone has wiped the entire board down with some type of dark brown stain. Areas of missing lithograph, particularly on the Fredrick Remington rendition. The back of the board has the original brown paper dust cover with label reading: "PRESENTED WITH COMPLIMENTS / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / PLEASE HANG IN A PROMINENT PLACE" Back of board reveals the number of cartridges that have been replaced. Rare opportunity for the beginning collector to acquire a desirable Winchester board. MKS
