Designed by Eugene Reising, the Harrington & Richardson Model 50 machine gun was fielded with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and also saw extensive usage with many police departments, who took large amounts of Reising Model 50s into their inventories after the conclusion of World War II. The Reising M50 is unique in that it fires its first shot from a closed bolt, giving it an accuracy advantage compared to other submachine guns of its time. This example features the military style parkerized finish, as well as a finned barrel, and compensator. Magazine well is corrugated on both sides, being able to only accept the earlier corrugated style magazines. Top of receiver bears stampings stipulating the manufacturer, model, and caliber designations, with the right side bearing "SAFE", "SA", and "FA" for the selector. Firearm is currently registered as "M3/50" in the Model block. This example is accompanied by a "NOBUCKL" canvas sling, a generic plastic hard case, and a total of 2 H&R marked 12 round corrugated stick magazines. PROVENANCE: James D. Julia, April 11th, 12th, 13th, 2017 Extraordinary Firearms Auction: Lot 1682. Former collection of noted firearms enthusiast, Donald W. Dixon. CONDITION: Metal components retain bountiful amounts of their parkerized finish, exhibiting a few nicks and scratches that show through to silvering. Bright bore, retaining good rifling throughout. Stock is very good, showing some scattered impressions, nicks, and a few handling marks. Sling is very good, showing few signs of aging and wear. Magazines show some wear overall that shows through to some silvering, but are sturdy and serviceable. A nice and clean example of a popular entry level .45 ACP machine gun. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. -MLW-
