Rare Model 94 special order Deluxe short rifle featured by collector Tommy Rholes in an Winchester Arms Collector article that comes with the gun as a "Texas Special". Guns with these 20" octagon barrels were a favorite among ranchers in Texas around this time period. This gun was made by Winchester Repeating Arms in 1928. Madis lists 1 in 1420 guns had a shorter than standard barrel, 1 in 800 had special wood, 1 in 725 had a pistol grip and 1 in 780 had checkering. Winchester full octagon nickel steel barrel with full blued magazine with raised pedestal front sight and adjustable rear buckhorn sight. Blued receiver with tang marked "WINCHESTER" and plain trigger. Figured walnut checkered pistol grip buttstock with matching assembly numbers, crescent steel buttplate, and factory style hook and eye sling swivels with Winchester logo hard rubber grip cap. Figured walnut factory checkered forearm with blued nosecap with factory style hook and eye sling swivel stud. Comes with Tommy Rholes article and former auction description. PROVENANCE: Ex-Tommy Rholes Collection; Ex-Billy Gillman Collection. CONDITION: 80% fading blue with corners starting to wear to a silvery patina. 50% fading action blue with balance turning a plum patina. Metal has some light usage scratches and dings. 70% original varnish with flaking and some usage marks with sharp checkering. Excellent bore and mechanics. DLM
