A fine side by side rifle from one of London's best and oldest surviving gun and rifle makers. Circa 1960, this handsome boxlock ejector double rifle is fitted with two sets of 26" blacked steel barrels. Original chopper lump barrels (A) being chambered in .450/400 and a second extra set of barrels (B) by John Bolliger chambered in the Holland & Holland proprietary caliber .500/465. Both sets of barrels fitted with ejectors and dolls head third fastener extensions. Rib on (A) with filed spearpoint quarter rib. Rear sight with a standing sight at 100 yards and 2 folding sights at 200 and 300 yards. Front sight is also spearpoint and bladed. Rib reads "CALIBRE 450/400 . CHAMBER 3 1/4". Right barrel reads "COGSWELL & HARRISON, LTD". Left barrel reads "168 PICCADILLY , LONDON N.W.1.". Barrel also furnished with sling loop and Zeiss Diavari Z 1,25-4x24 MC scope. Short rib reads "86095". Barrel flats with London proofs and is stamped "COR.MKI 60-400 MAX", "69592". Barrel (B) with matte quarter rib. Rib furnished with a gold line standing sight regulated for 50 yards and a second gold line folding sight regulated for 150 yards. Front sight is raised and bladed. Bottom rib with stud for sling loop. Left barrel reads ".500/465 NITRO EXPRESS". Right barrel reads "JOHN BOLLIGER RIFLE MAKER". Both barrels have dolls head extension with scroll and (B) set has floral engraved side panels near breach. Blued boxlock action third fastener, disc set strikers, double triggers, blued, engraved, and checkered top lever, serrated thumb safe slide and is non-auto safe. Action, fences, trigger guard, and strap all with floral scrolls. Action is engraved "COGSWELL & HARRISON" at top near water table. The water table is stamped"69592" (for serial number) with London proof stamps. Trigger guard and bottom strap with floral scroll. Strap with serial number "69592" inlaid in gold. Beautiful feather crotch brown stock with sharp checkered pistol grip with fluer de lis border, small right hand palm swell, blacked steel floral engraved grip cap, shadow line cheekpiece, stud for sling loop, and nicely finished by a brown English styled leather covered pad. Both barrels are fitted with matching splinter forends. Forends with fluer de lis design and Anson styled releases. Blacked iron metal, pin, and escutcheons with floral scroll engraving. Rifle comes with approximately 120 rounds of .450/400 3 - 1/4" ammunition and approximately 60 rounds of .500/465 NE - all custom built for rifle. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels retain 98% blue. (A) refinished and (B) original. Barrel bores are bright. Action is very good while benefiting from refurbishment. Action is tight with both barrels. Triggers are crisp and ejectors are timed. Stock with some light handling marks from use. Forends are very good. Good African dangerous game set. CP
