Type 1 Springfield Model 1863 musket with standard 40" .58 caliber rifled barrel dated 1863 and marked with "V / P / (Eagle Head)" proofs. Barrel fitted with 3 position leaf rear sight graduated to 500 yards and retained by 3 iron bands to a full length walnut stock. Stock is marked with "TBH" and "ESA" inspection cartouches. Bands marked "U" and butt plate marked "US/16". Case hardened lock plate dated 1864 and marked with American eagle and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD". Complete with tulip head ram rod. CONDITION: Fine as cleaned. Barrel and bands cleaned and polished in the white with a few handling marks and older corrosion spots. Lockplate and hammer retain significant amounts of their dulled case colors with some silvering at edges and a few dings. Stock very good with scattered handling marks. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Fine mechanics. BAS
