Originally manufactured as a Model 1865 Spencer repeating carbine by Burnside, as marked on the receiver, this example was converted into a full length infantry rifle with approximately 1,100 others in 1871. At the time of conversion, a new 32-1/2" .50 caliber 3-groove rifled barrel was added with a ladder rear sight and bayonet lug front. It is fitted in a 2 piece walnut stock mounted with 2 spring retained iron bands, saddle ring and the standard trap butt, which houses the magazine tube. Stock marked with "ESA" cartouche. Case hardened lever action receiver with Stabler cutoff. CONDITION: Very good. Traces of the original blued finish are retained in protected areas with balance brown patina. Faded case colors visible on receiver, with an overall brown patina. Stock very good with some minor marks. Excellent mirror bore. Fine mechanics. BAS
