Lot consists of: (A) US Regulation 1851 Major epaulettes contained in their original japanned finish tin case. The epaulettes are quite elegant and are constructed of gold lace with a solid gilded brass crescent, rigid strap topped by a small, domed, gilded button, and wide gold bullion fringe. This pair exhibits gold oak leaves denoting the rank of major, and are complete, with a complete set of left and right stamped mounting hardware which retains their gilding and gold wash on all components. The epaulettes remain intact and in good condition, exhibiting only slight tears in their leather underside. The case exhibits scratches and scuffs but is in otherwise good condition. CONDITION: Very good. (B) US Regulation 1851 Captain epaulettes contained in their original fiber case. These epaulettes exhibit bullion captain bars and are of similar construction to the first pair, however there are a few slight differences. The gilded button on top is not domed, and the fringe is thinner, as high ranking officers usually had wider fringe on their epaulettes. This pair is complete with a set of left and right stamped mounting hardware. The epaulettes have darkened with age but remain intact and present nicely. There are a few tears on the underside. The case remains sturdy with scattered blemishes. CONDITION: Good. (C) Pair of brass Civil War era spurs which appear to be of similar construction to products of spur maker Buermann. The rowel is small and measures 3/4" The spurs are contained in a padded case. The spurs present nicely and show little tarnishing. The case remains sturdy with scattered blemishes. CONDITION: Good. (D) Box containing a tin with "Edward Hitchcock / Amherst / Mass" on the lid. The tin contains two rounds of ammunition that are marked "R-P / 38 SPL".
