Winchester 2nd Model 1873 special order lever action magazine rifle built by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1882. Winchester special order half round half octagon rifled barrel with sheared blade front sight and rear adjustable buckhorn rear sight. Madis states that one of 900 guns had part round barrel. Blued Second Model frame with 2 screw dust cover rail and blued button magazine. Madis states that 1 in 270 had shorter than normal magazine. Walnut plain stock with brass trapdoor buttplate. Walnut plain forearm with blued nose cap. CONDITION: Metal has worn to a silvery corroded appearance with areas of discoloration. Tang screw is missing with the addition of what looks to be a 66 Winchester buttplate. Wood has heavy old added coat of varnish with some plastic wood at wrist area. Dark pitted bore with good mechanics. DLM
