Extremely rare Whitney Hooded Cylinder Pocket percussion revolver, serial number 197 of approximately 200 produced between 1850-1852. 4" octagonal barrel in .28 caliber with cone front sight and frame notch rear. Matching serial numbers observed on trigger guard and underneath right grip panel. Barrel is numbered 154. Acid etched manual turning cylinder inside of a silver plated brass frame complete with 2 piece plain walnut grips. CONDITON: Very good, with barrel starting to turn a blue-brown patina with areas of finish loss and pitting throughout. Brass frame retains some of its original silver plating, especially near grip but is overall a cleaned mustard yellow patina with areas of tarnish throughout. Right side of frame has areas of spot welding (possibly to fix very deep pits). Right side frame screw has been heavily cleaned and is possibly a replacement. Two piece grips are good with areas of finish loss but are strong with no visible cracks. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand. Bore is very bright, nearly mirror with sharp rifling. TON
