Late model Henry Rifle, serial number 6133 found on top barrel flat, bottom tang inside stock, inside top tang channel of stock, and inside buttplate. Last three digits "133" found inside barrel extension, and top of barrel round section. 24" octagon barrel. Bottom stock tang is marked "H". Plain grain walnut stock with sling provisions mounted to the stock and barrel left side. Top frame flat is engraved in script " G.C. Swallow", believed to be George C. Swallow born 1817 in Buckfield Maine, graduate of Bowdoin College, class of 1843. Swallow was a prominent figure in early state geological surveys and American geology. The frame and buttplate is period engraved in foliate scrolls. The time of nickel plating is unknown, however the engraving shows considerable wear under the nickel. CONDITION: Very good as refinished. Nickel shows a nice aged patina. Action operates correctly. Bore is very good showing modest abrasion. Wood is excellent as lightly refinished. MKS
