Reverse glass Napa City Brewery sign, maker marked for Dawes Mfg. Co. Pittsburgh, Pa. The John L. Dawes & Sons Manufacturing Company was established in 1846 located in Pittsburgh, PA. By 1891, they changed their company name to Dawes Manufacturing Company Inc (Dawes Mfg. Co.) and during that time they produced many curved and lens-like glass advertising signs for many companies and industries across the country. CONDITION: Incredible pre-prohibition c. 1890s to 1910s advertising sign with cardboard backing. Showing wonderful color with several areas of missing paint, primarily in the white background at the extreme edges and in the gold leaf lettering. Original gesso frame in gilt gold. An amazing piece of early California branded beer signage.
