7-3/4" barrel, bore is .40bore flintlockThe Shuler family most notably John and Joseph, as well as many of their relatives, operated gunsmith shops in and around Perry county, Pa. as early as 1811. The barrel is signed J Shuler on top of the barrel flat. Unlike many of the ornate Pennsylvania long rifles manufactured during this era, this Pennsylvanian pistol is strictly utilitarian with the exception of the decorated brass left side plate. The octagon barrel has a simple brass front sight, a lightly decorated brass forend tip, 2 brass thimbles and a brass trigger guard adorned with an acorn tip. The lock is not makers stamped. There is a small brass identification plaque on the grip, a fine 1 piece walnut stock that is stamped in a Pennsylvania pattern. The brass is a deep dark patina, the wood is excellent with no visible cracks, the rod is a replacement. Lovely Perry County Flintlock Pistol dating to the 1810-1820s.
