32 - 1/4" curved blade with wide single fuller running for nearly the entire length of the blade. Left side of ricasso with "Ames Mfg Co / Chicopee / Mass", right side with "U.S. / C.E.W. / 1864". Brass D guard. Single strand of braided brass wire on leather grip. Plain scabbard with two hangers and "J.H." proof on drag. CONDITION: Blade is excellent, retaining the vast majority of original polish with cross polish still visible. There a a few extremely minor microchips to blade. Areas of darkness towards the front 1/3 of the blade. Grip and wrap are excellent, complete. Brass guard is complete and has taken on a lovely brown patina. Scabbard is good with some crackalure to the finish but fits correctly. Some minor denting. A good 1840 Light Artillery Saber with a good date. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport. EW. CORRECTION: Photo for this lot is incorrect. Description is correct.
