The 1889-CC Morgan dollar stands as one of the great key dates of the entire Morgan dollar series and is widely regarded as the rarest Carson City Morgan dollar overall. Struck at the reopened Carson City Mint following a four-year shutdown, production was limited to just 350,000 pieces, most of which entered circulation almost immediately. As a result, survivors in higher grades are elusive, and About Uncirculated examples are avidly sought by collectors. This example is certified AU58 by PCGS, placing it at the very top of the About Uncirculated range and just shy of Mint State. The coin retains strong original luster, with only the lightest evidence of friction confined to the highest design points. Subtle toning is beginning to form around the rim, adding visual depth while preserving an overall bright and appealing appearance. Cert No. 34153663.
