Circa 1880. Carved and painted wood cigar store Indian figure, depicting a standing warrior in elaborate feathered headdress and decorated costume, holding a knife at the waist and tobacco-related objects, with finely modeled facial features, beaded ornaments, carved feather and costume details, and distinctive crossed-leg stance. Mounted on a substantial architectural pedestal with carved and painted decoration and the word “TOBACCO” incised across the upper plinth. CONDITION: Figure displays historic paint surface with areas of wear and surface loss; pedestal appears to be of later construction or substantially altered, with scattered wear and imperfections; overall structurally sound and presents well.
