24 plates with five rivets per plate and shiten no byo. Tehen decorated in three steps with fence around tip, underneath a tubular tip piece. Brown lacquered mabizashi with two visible rivets and maedate clip. Maedate made of brass and in the form of stylized flames with engraving along median. Large fukigaeshi with pierced tomoe crest. Shikoro of three lames made of iron and lacquered en suite, bound with blue and tan cord. Interior of shikoro gilded, interior of mabizashi with reddish lacquer. Liner with stylized cloth edging and simple point pattern of teal on tan. Iron menpo with horsehair moustache and goatee, gilt copper teeth, and brown lacquer coating. Attachment hooks on check are vacant, nosepiece is removable. Yodare-kake of gilded iron and bound by blue cord with two strips of decorative orange and cord at bottom. Interior and upper lip in an orange lacquer. Woven orange, white, and green affixing cord. Menpo likely associated as the pattern of the guard and the lacquer does not match quite right. CONDITION: Very good. Kabuto hachi with a few spots of age related patination that do not detract. Tubular top piece is loose and could be reaffixed. Shikoro is very good with traces of original lacquer mostly in protected areas. Lacquer has some minor chipping throughout as to be expected of age. Menpo is very good, much of the horsehair goatee is missing but moustache is still quite full. Teeth with traces of gilding in protected areas. One cord broken but could be repaired. Some cracking to gilding. A really nice example in good condition. EW
