English Pattern 1853 heavy cavalry saber. Blade is bright with scattered light blemishes. Ricasso is marked with the Birmingham RSAF inspector's mark numbered 13. Spine is marked "REEVES". Flat iron-mounted knucklebow is joined by the two branches at the oval counterguard that terminates in a quillon ending in a flat-sided disc. Hilt exhibits a light patina. Checkered leather grips are tightly riveted to the tang. Leather exhibits scattered crazing and blemishes. Late white buff sword knot attached. Complete with iron scabbard that exhibits a gray patina with scattered blemishes. Throat collar retains both small set screws. Scabbard is marked "52 / IV / LD / 553" for the 4th Light Dragoons. The regiment was in the second line of cavalry on the right flank during the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava in October 1854. CONDITION: Good.
