Circa 1876, this sitting of Custer was taken by William R. Howell on April 23, 1876 and is thought to be the last photo ever taken of him in uniform. It is a classic albumen image bust view with Custer seated and wearing his full dress uniform with his cavalry shoulder knots and aiguillette clearly visible. Crisp details and with wonderful tones, this is most likely the finest example of this photo extant. Also included is an albumen image of the same era of Elizabeth "Libby" Custer. Professionally framed and archival matted. Ref: Plate K-155 CUSTER in Photographs - D. Mark Katz. CONDITION: Excellent overall. Provenance: Dr. Frank Wagner cavalry museum collection.

Condition: (Excellent).

Item Dimensions: (Individual images -6.5" x 4.25". Frame included- 15" x 12.")
