The blade is decorated for about half of its length with a fire blued panel which terminates in the design of lush foliage. Each panel is decorated with elegant designs, including foliate scrollwork and a panoply of arms at the center. Obverse center panoply is topped with a liberty cap and the reverse ricasso scrollwork is topped with a liberty cap. No visible maker mark. Ornate 5-ball crossguard with matching 5-ball knucklebow that connects to the eagle head pommel which features a pronounced forehead. Nice fluted ivory grip contained between 2 brass ferrules. Complete with leather scabbard that features scalloped brass mounts. The mounts each feature double line engraving with the upper mount featuring a carry stud. Upper and middle mount retain a carry ring. CONDITION: The blade exhibits a pleasant gray patina with fading to the fire blued panels. Hilt exhibits a generous amount of its original gilding. Grip is very good with 1 significant crack and a few small hairlines. Scabbard remains pliable with scattered creasing and secure mounts. The upper mount is missing its retaining pin. Mounts exhibit generous amounts of original gilding. A nice example of an eagle head pommel saber.
