AMERICAN LION POMMEL OFFICER'S SWORD WITH ORIGINAL SCABBARD, EX. TOM GRINSLADE COLLECTION.
Revolutionary War, possibly New Hampshire made. The slightly curved blade has a deep narrow fuller along the top on both sides. Original red wool washer at top of blade between blade and guard. The brass hilt has a scalloped edge on the right side of the four-slot guard. Turned cherry grip with deep flutes. Small primitive lion's head pommel. Complete with its original brown leather scabbard with "X" tooled decoration. Sheet brass mounts. CONDITION: Blade retains a light grey patina with some darker grey spots ion patina. Some "battle" nicks to cutting edge. Brass retains a dark patina. Grip very good with some minor chipping at base. Hilt and pommel slightly loose due to shrinkage. Scabbard very good with some crazing and minor losses to surface. A very nice example of a true American made Revolutionary War officer's sword.
