34 - 3/4" gently curving blade with partial double fullers running approximately 3/4 of the blade. Left side of ricasso marked " U.S. / J.C.W. / 1861", right side marked "Ames Mfg Co / Chicopee / Mass" in small script on a scroll. Single braided wire wrap. "J.C.W" inspection on pommel. Scabbard is plain steel with two hangers and visible weld line. CONDITION: Very good. Blade is in bright polish with some darkness in a few spots, predominantly towards tip. Leather spacer has some loss to right side. Brass guard is a lovely dark yellow with some marks commensurate with use and handling. Grip wrap is complete, leather with some scuffs and minor chipping. Scabbard has acquired a pleasing even patina with some pitting around the drag. Lower hanger has two minor cracks in it. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport. EW.
