The Isaac Webb was a massive three-deck packet of the Black Ball line built by William H. Webb in 1851. Named after the builder’s father, the Isaac Webb measured 185 feet in length and 1,359 tons. From 1851–1879, the ship made approximately four round trips per year between New York and Liverpool, England. The Black Ball Line of New York pioneered scheduled ship service to Liverpool, England in 1818 and became lucrative in the passenger trade when immigration to the United States was at its peak. Jacobsen is known to have painted the Isaac Webb several times. Inscribed lower center "Isaac Webb".
