20.5cm nagasa in hirazukuri shape with mitsumune and kuri nakagojiri. Signed in two chacters Kaneie, with NBTHK Hozon papers to Seki Kaneie. Jihada is mokume mixed with masame, with chikei throughout. Suguha hamon with ko maru boshi. Two piece habaki with gold and silver foil. Later 19th century aikuchi mounts with gold lacquer of rolling vines and florals with family mons interspersed on a black lacquer background. Tsuka of plain tsame, and menuki of butterflies. With a shirasaya, NBTHK hozon papers, and a Japanese Art Swords Record of Sword. CONDITION: In good polish with features visible throughout. A few small spots of ware and superficial scratching. Mounts are very good with the majority of lacquer remaining, some handling marks and chips to edge. Foil starting to peel somewhat. Menuki starting to rub to copper at top edges. A lovely tanto.
