c. 1851. The device is designed so that the sleeve rides over the bottom portion of the ebonized shaft. There is a 1 - 1/2" iron ferrule which is stamped "Hudson Patent, September 9, 1851". There is a slit in the bottom of the ferrule which hides the assassin's blade. The curios works in the following manner: when the palm of the hand, which has been placed on the knob handle, is turned to unlock the device, it is then given a sharp push and a 3" blade shoots out of the ferrule delivering its attack. The overall length is 36". All mechanics work and the condition is very good. This is a rare piece and may be one of the earliest gadget canes ever patented in America.
Item Dimensions: 33 - 1/2" x 1 - 1/4" x 1 - 1/4".
