These blades were extremely popular in both Scotland and with Scottish mercenaries in Ireland, and contemporary records speak of their brutal efficiency. This example has a 37 - 1/4" blade which starts out at 2" at the ricasso before tapering to approximately 1 - 1/8" near tip; uniquely short, with most blades longer than 40". Iconic quillons with quatrefoil ends and 1 - 3/4" tongues pointing down blades. Cylindrical grip with evidence of a lacquer coating of some kind, possibly an adhesive that would have held leather in place. Pommel with raised central medial ridge. CONDITION: Metal has an even chocolate patina, with flashes of dove grey throughout. One tongue has been solder repaired. One quatrefoil broken off. Grip is good with some handling marks and chips at terminals.
