19th century. Toy includes the original box. Box shows a depiction of a walking military man with directions on the bottom. The box is distressed with some paper peeling on the bottom, some slight staining and edge wear on the top. The Zouave is a French infantry soldier. The toy has a paper mache head, clockwork mechanism, and beautiful original civil war type clothing. The tin legs show some wear. Likely one of the best known examples.
