Civil War Union Cavalry enlisted man's regulation shell jacket. Original rough blue wool lining to the inside with cotton sleeve linings. CONDITION: Retains the original "WATERBURY" federal eagle buttons throughout. Retains tightly stitched yellow worsted wool tape piping with original saber belt pillow supports at the rear. The was the standard issue Union cavalry jacket for enlisted men which later saw use in the Indian Wars period until the adoption of the pattern 1872 uniforms. Inspector stamped in cotton sleeve lining: 'F.H. SHAFER -U.S.-INSP. CIN.' PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Wagner cavalry museum collection.
