CONTINENTAL RAPIER.

36" blade with a 10" fuller at ricasso, which rapidly tapers to a needle-like tip, ricasso with incised lines and surmounted by a cross. Crude guard with a clamshell languette on one side and a open heart shaped counterguard. Plain wod grip and partially flattened ovoid pommel. With an interesting two piece wooden scabbard wrapped in black leather and banded at throat and drag with iron bands, throat with frog. CONDITION: Blade and guard with evidence of compositing, cleaning, and heavy corrosion throughout. Wood grip en suite. Evidence of compositing done long ago, perhaps period. Scabbard separating with losses to leather, but fits sword appropriately.
