15 - 1/2'' x 19 - 1/2'' framed; 11 - 1/2'' x 15 - 1/2''. Oil on canvas in Impressionistic style, titled Town Hall. Painted by Cornelius ''Connie'' Hicks (American, 1899-1931), a painter and illustrator who died at the height of his career, only 32 years old. Educated at Pratt Art Institute in New York City, he later became an instructor there. He may be the best known for his illustration of the official Red Cross poster depicting a nurse in the foreground with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in the background. Hicks also illustrated for Collier's, Mentor, Liberty and Elks magazines. Painting was purchased from Jane Donovan of Camp Hill, Pa., a relative of Hicks. Ms. Donovan indicated the painting was an earlier work, possibly from Cornelius Hicks' days at Pratt. Tastefully framed.
