The live portion of this session begins on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
This early cannon measures approximately 24 - 1/2" from cascabel to muzzle. Muzzle is slightly swamped, with a reinforcing ring just behind swamp with a decorative band of scroll behind the band, and playful floral geometrics in front. Well-detailed fishform lifting handles, with additional reinforcing rings in front of and behind the handles decorated en suite with ring at muzzle, just of slightly larger scale. Raised vacant shield over the breech, decorated in same elaborate floral style. Reinforcing rings at breech, with raised touchhole, decorated en suite with rest of cannon, while cascabel is knobbed. Mounted in a old naval style carriage with scalloped edge decorations and 4 rings for securing the carriage. Wheels retained by lynch pins. Cannon held in place by brass trunnion brackets utilizing retaining pins. Underneath the main body of cannon is a wedge with handle. CONDITION: Bronze has a deep uncleaned rich golden color, with some verdigris forming throughout, particularly in protected areas. Touchhole is clear and air flows through freely. Carriage is excellent, with scattered handling marks throughout, but solid and highly attractive. Bore has debris but appears serviceable. Walnut tampion that fits correctly is of later manufacture. An attractive example.
EARLY ATTRACTIVE BRONZE SIGNAL CANNON ON CARRIAGE.
