This is the first type of box that Winchester made for the 1876 Winchester rifle in .50-95. This box has the rare over stamp of "KEENE" on the front label. According to the book "One Hundred Years of Winchester Cartridge Boxes 1856 - 1956", this ammo is supposed to be head stamped either .50-95 W.C.F. or Plain. The ammunition in this box is not head stamped. This cartridge eventually turned into the .50 Express. Tan 2-piece box with green top and a tan rear label. Top label reads "20 CENTRAL FIRE EXPRESS CARTRIDGES 20 / MANUFACTURED AND GUARANTEED / BY THE / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO., / NEW HAVEN, CONN., U.S.A.". CONDITION: The box is solid with just a bit of edge wear and one seam split on the top of the box on the right side end. Top label shows some fading and slight chipping and staining. Overall an excellent condition. REW
