Lot consists of (A) A classic Cromwellian lobstertail helmet with plume holder and sliding nasal guard. Formed in one piece about the skull with hinged ear guard, sliding nasal guard with heart shaped finial inscribed "43", and lobstertail of 4 lames. CONDITION: Good, showing wonderful delamination from the hammer throughout and an even age appropriate oxidation, with one cleaned area on right side of skull. Helmet is tight on the whole; leather hinges replaced but old. Wooden stand is not included and is used for display in photograph only. (B) English Civil War period breastplate, probably for a pikeman, with raised edges and incised lines about the perimeter. Medial ridge comes to a blunt flange. 2 staples at shoulders for hanging colors. Edges are delaminated with attractive layer separation. CONDITION: Very good with an even chocolate oxidation throughout. Some delamination but no holes. Some handling marks on interior that do not detract. Breastplate weighs 5lbs 15oz, helmet 3lbs 14oz. A nice example of classic pieces of armor. EMW
