Lot #2382:
EXCEEDINGLY RARE BOB LOVELESS CBS/SONY FIELD KNIFE.
A maker that needs no introduction, Bob Loveless is known as one of the greatest modern knifemakers to exist, making high end knives for the consumer market as well as US government organizations such as the CIA and US Army Special Forces. This example is one of the knives referred to as the "CBS-SONY" knives, as they were made for a store in Japan which operated under that name. This knife and the other 30 that were made for Japan are the original versions of the Loveless field knives. Mirror polished drop point blade marked "R.W. LOVELESS / makers / Riverside, Calif." on obverse side. Small satin finished 416 stainless steel guard. Tapered tang construction with black micarta scales secured by two rivets on each side and bordered by red spacers. Center of obverse scale features an oval escutcheon. Integral lanyard loop. Complete with russet leather scabbard marked with Robert Loveless' signature football shaped stamp on scabbard body. The scabbard remains supple with tight stitching and functioning snap.
