1899, GERMANY: Monopol-Excelsior-Musik-Automat. No. 84. A very rare disk music box indeed. Extremely well constructed walnut case, playing 67cm discs across a double comb with 156 teeth, with rich Piccolo Sublime Harmony tone. Manufactured by the Leipziger Musicwerke, later the Paul Ehrlich and Co. from 1890 into the early 1900's. This example comes with 20 discs and the correct crank and keys. CONSIDERATIONS: The walnut case shows very little signs of wear, with a few scuffs and abrasions to the finish. The coin operation works as intended, and the dual comb is free from repair and complete. The sound and tone is deep and rich and what you would expect from a music box of this high quality. Not many Monopols of this size exist in the world today, and here is an excellent example.
