This unique two-piece halberd head was made using a British 18th century Brown Bess socket bayonet as the spike. The base has been modified for a pole using a cylindrical socket with brass filled joint. The iron blacksmith made halberd head slides on the bayonet and can be removed. One side of the head features an upward-turned pierced heart while the blade is a crescent moon with a star on the top and bottom corners. There is a face cut into the moon with a pierced eye. There is extensive punch dot decoration on both sides and on the right side, the initials "RB" in punched dots. CONDITION: Mostly lightly pitted grey patina with some darker areas of heavier patina. A very unique folk art halberd head.
