Form is indicative of a early 16th century mace of Italian or German origin with 7 flanges about the head, acid etched with what appear to be floral and animalistic imagery, a faceted half, and a handle with incised "braids" with finials at top and bottom. Hollow construction, with an opening at the top of the head, probably for accommodating a spike. The braize is visible at the grip, but the construction of the head suggests a later Victorian copy. CONDITION: Good, largely gunmetal grey mixed with a light brown patina throughout. Acid etching of head softened and eroded completely in places. A neat display piece.
