For an identical example of this hilt, see 169.S on page 118 of "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by George Neumann. He dates this sword to 1755-1765. Slightly curved blade with two fullers along the top on each side. Ornate brass hilt with heart shaped guard with quillon and thumb ring on the left side of guard. Right side with ornate scroll branches. Olive shaped pommel with integral capstan. Braided wire-wrapped grip. CONDITION: Blade retains a mostly light grey patina with light pitting throughout. Brass retains a pleasing mustard patina. A very attractive early officer's sword.
