The French Model AN XI light cavalry saber was the first standard saber designated for all light cavalry after the revolution and was introduced in 1800. This example is an officer’s model which would have been privately purchased. Curved single-fullered blade is likely a German import and features engraved foliate and military motifs. Blade exhibits an older cleaning with ghosting that was once fire blued panels around the once gold washed motifs. The three-bar hilt with recessed borders. Long oval double langets and single scroll quillon. Capstan pommel with integral backstrap. Leather grip wrap with strands of twisted wire. The grip exhibits separation from the backstrap and a few chips that expose the wood. Iron scabbard with iron drag and brass rings exhibits scattered dents and blemishes. CONDITION: Good.
