New York militia commission for John DeWitt, gentleman of Dutchess County, dated 19 February 1773, appointing him Ensign in Radcliff's Company of Foot in the first battalion of Ten Broeck's regiment of Dutchess County militia. Signed by Tryon at upper left below applied seal, with certification on reverse by Gilbert Livingston that DeWitt was qualified to sign the necessary oaths and declarations. CONDITION: Excellent. Fading to red wax seal. Dewitt's house, built in 1773 still stands. He rose to Captain, served in the Revolutionary War, was a member of the Assembly, county sheriff, and member of the constitutional convention.
