This Imperial German Hunting Dagger with Damascus Blade is in, overall, very good condition. The 19" Damascus steel blade in very good condition. There are some scattered light marks along both cutting edges and a few areas of freckling which are masked by the Damascus design. Two straight blood grooves flank a raised, curving, gilded spine. The blade is unmarked. The cross guard, made of plated brass or nickel, is ornately designed using a boar's head at each end of the guard, and a central motif with a pheasant. The clam shell is also made of a plated nickel or brass, and features a stag head surrounded by an oak and laurel leaf wreath. The stag grip is in near mint condition and is loosely held in place by the upper and lower silvered fittings. The scabbard throat fitting is silver plated and features two hand enhanced swans, which were meant to hold the now lost hanger. The scabbard throat fitting shows a dark line from the original soldering. The scabbard itself is made of leather and is wrapped in what appears to be shark skin. The skin shows light scattered marks throughout. The lower fitting of the scabbard is missing.
