Lot of material from the Dr. John K. Lattimer collection reflecting his general interest in the history of medicine. Book: 1st British Edition, "Experiments and Observations on the Gastric Juice & the Physiology of Digestion". Edinburgh 1838, octavo, cloth backed boards, paper label, half title, pp xx, 319. Huddersfield Med. Soc. label inside front cover. List of members opposite. Margins slightly yellowed. (A classic study made possible by survival of a gunshot victim with a stomach wound.) The following engravings are paired with autograph material, signed notes, or letters: John K. Mitchell; Valentine Mott; Theodore Romeyn Beck; John Collins Warren; Richard Bright; Samuel L. Mitchell, with ALS and published eulogy removed from book. Manuscript material only: George Hamilton Bell note regarding vaccination; ALS William James McNeven; 1809 account page of Enoch Wilson recording pay of tuition to Dr. James Smith and receipts for medicine and medical visits from others. 1725 French document, 3pp., signed by Dr. Labouris. Appears to be invoice for medicines; Engraving only: Dr. Wm. Shippen, Sr. Member of the Continental Congress. CONDITION: Very good overall.
