LOT OF 2: EUROPEAN SWORDS.
Lot consists of (A) Revolutionary War Germanic Cavalry Saber. For a similar example of this style hilt, see the German horseman's saber on plate 292.S page 159 of "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by George Neumann. The straight blade has a false edge, deep thin partial fuller along the top and a shallow wide fuller beginning about 8" from top of blade. Massive brass clamshell guard with quillon and semi-basket hilt guard on right side with thumb ring on left side. Large ball pommel with turnings at base and below integral capstan. Leather-wrapped wood grip with twisted brass wire. CONDITION: Blade retains a light grey patina with spots of heavier patina towards tip. Brass retains a pleasing dark mustard patina. Grip shows one area of loss to leather on right side. Blade tight to hilt. (B) Dutch short sword. Slightly curved blade with single narrow fuller at top. Blade marked with running fox and date 1765. Iron stirrup hilt with braided brass wire wrapped grip. CONDITION: Blade retains a dark grey mottled patina. Hilt retains a dark patina. Grip with a pleasing mustard patina. A nice lot of Revolutionary War era European swords.
