Lot consists of: (A) French Napoleonic Wars AN XI/XIII Cuirassier Sword which was often criticized for the weight of the blade and the weakness of the guard and scabbard. The sword features a straight single edged blade with flat spine and twin fullers which extend to the spear point. Blade is marked on the spine by Klingenthal and dated 1813 with proof marks above the obverse ricasso. Brass guard with 3-band guard that meets the knucklebow before extending to the plain, rounded pommel. Grip is of wood which is grooved and wrapped with leather. Complete with steel scabbard. CONDITION: The blade is bright, but exhibits evidence of an older cleaning and sharpening. Hilt exhibits a pleasant patina with handling wear on the grip. Scabbard exhibits scattered areas of surface rust and blemishes. (B) Another French Napoleonic Wars AN XI/XIII Cuirassier Sword. Same configuration as (A) except with a single edge drop point blade and 3-band guard that joins the knucklebow and extends all the way to the pommel. Also marked on the spine by Klingenthal and dated 1813. Complete with iron scabbard. CONDITION: The blade exhibits a scattered chocolate patina with crisp markings. Hilt exhibits a mellow patina with handling wear to grip. A nice set of AN/XIII swords.
