Lot consists of: (A) French Napoleonic Hussar light cavalry saber, used by a variety of units, officers, and noncommissioned officers. The sword features a curved blade with a wide fuller that is decorated with blued panels for about 1/3 of its length. The panels each feature elegant gold washed motifs which include panoplies of arms and scrollwork. Obverse ricasso is maker marked "A.S.". Brass hilt with crossguard that terminates with a teardrop quillon and forms into a stirrup shaped knucklebow. Brass languets help secure the wood grip, that is wrapped with leather and grooved to accommodate twisted brass wire. Tiered pommel with backstrap. Complete with brass scabbard. CONDITION: The blade exhibits a bright patina with scattered areas of pitting on the blued panels. Motifs retain most of their gold wash. Hilt exhibits a pleasing patina with nice grip that exhibits scattered blemishes and handling wear. Brass scabbard also exhibits a pleasing patina with decent traces of original gilding. A few scattered dents. (B) British Pattern 1796 Light Cavalry Saber. Large curved blade with single wide fuller and flat spine marked "I GILL". Wide crossguard with teardrop quillon and 2 plain shield shaped languets. Stirrup shaped crossguard with bird head pommel and backstrap. Grooved wood grip wrapped with black leather. Complete with steel scabbard. CONDITION: The blade exhibits a mild patina with evidence of an older cleaning and sharpening. Hilt with nice patina and grip with obvious wear and missing most of the leather wrap. Scabbard exhibits a mild patina with evidence of an older cleaning. Pitting and small dents throughout.
