Lot consists of (A) Large late 18th century to early 19th century American artillery powder horn measuring about 18" across the bow. Brass charging spout at tip and turned concave wooden plug with removable threaded knob. Hand-forged iron loop for strap attachment mounted below spout. CONDITION: Very good with as as-found surface overall. (B) Large engraved powder horn of about 13-1/2" across the bow. Engraved in block letters "ROBERT JANES" in shaded letters about "PI". There is also an engraved church and tavern, faceted below spout section. CONDITION: As found an untouched with a dark honey surface and some deterioration and losses to convex wooden plug. DMG
