The lot consists of: (A) Mounted Crimean War medal group attributed to John R. Gage that includes an unnamed Crimea Medal with Sebastopol clasp. Crimea Medals were issued unnamed but could be returned to the mint for naming. The Crimea Medal is mounted with a Turkish Crimea Medal, also unnamed. The medal is the British version with "Crimea 1855" on the reverse. The group also includes 3 naval buttons (which is why included notes mention Gage served with the Royal Navy), 2 coins, and 2 masonic Worshipful Master Officer chevrons engraved with Gage's name. CONDITION: Medals and chevrons exhibit a moderate patina. (B) Mounted British Medal bar with Crimea Medal ribbon, Indian Mutiny Medal ribbon, Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (Victoria version with scroll suspender) impressed "3454 WILLIAM J. DOWLING 33RD REGIMENT", and Turkish Crimea Medal ribbon. William John Dowling was a Private who served in the 33rd Regiment of Foot and is noted to have fought in the Crimean War, Abyssinian campaign, and various other engagements accumulated through a long career in the Army. Some records included. CONDITION: The medal exhibits a dark patina. Good overall.
