(A) Larger of the two is 27" (68 cm) with unusually pale bisque, blue-grey paperweight eyes, open mouth with six molded upper teeth, well-executed eyelashes, eyebrows and highlighting of mouth and nostrils. She is on a fully jointed French wood and composition body with mostly original finish in overall quite good condition. She wears an antique ribbed cotton and embroidered lace dress with brown silk ribbon sash, antique Jumeau shoes brown leather with stamp on the soles "12 Paris Depose" as well as the recognized Jumeau logo of a bumblebee. Her wig is antique, probably original, very dark human hair with curly bangs and long sausage-like curls in back, which cover the original cork pate. She has a remade silk and lace hat which complements the costume. She has a faint old hairline on the right upper side of the forehead, which extends almost to the eyebrow. (B) Smaller doll 20" (51 cm), has a red stamp on the back of the head reading "Tete Jumeau" with an incised "9." She is a slightly earlier period doll, however with open mouth and six molded upper teeth, very nice bulbous grey-blue paperweight eyes, well-painted lashes, brows and mouth, attached with original coil spring to the original fully jointed French wooden composition body, with mostly original paint in overall above average condition. On the back of her torso, there is a paper oval label which is somewhat worn, bearing the name of the toy store where she was probably originally sold in the city of Grenoble. Although not marked, she wears antique, possibly original, leather shoes and wig is most likely original very dark human hair. She lacks a pate of any kind. Costume is at least old, if not antique. Costume is in the form of a pinafore pink cotton with red embroidered floral design.
