LOT OF 2: PHILADELPHIA EAGLE POMMEL AND BAVARIAN OFFICER’S SWORDS.

Lot consists of: (A) Circa 1815-1820 American Philadelphia-style, brass eagle hilt sword, possibly by Widmann, with “Honour and My Country” blade. Brass hilt in abstract, stylized eagle form with smooth grip, false ferrule, stepped beak and simple round eyes. D-guard slotted for sword knot that enters the open beak. Blade is single edged, slightly curved with single wide fuller. Ricasso etched both sides with latticework. Obverse blade with trophy of arms, Liberty Cap on pole, followed by Federal style US eagle shield, arrows and olive branch. 15 stars overhead within a French style knotted ribbon reading “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” oval victory wreath above and faint sun/starburst. Reverse deeply etched in large letters, “HONOUR AND MY COUNTY.” Federal period style eagle and motifs. An identical sword with partial brass and leather scabbard is pictured in an online militaria forum. (B) Bavarian officer’s sword 1806-1825. Brass hilt with globe pommel, button finial, rolled impressed wire-wrapped design grip. Round screw-fastened knucklebow and straight quillons. Boat-shaped guard with central peak. Crown/MK cypher of Maximilian, King of Bavaria 1806-1825, on both sides of the hexagonal cross-section blade. CONDITION: (A) Good. Pommel shows dent and separation along the seam from an attempt to tighten it up. Slightly dark blade, but good edge and point, rubbed EPU motto and star/sunburst. (B) Good. Blade dark but smooth metal, good edge and point. Legible royal cypher.
